Corning, NY (February 27, 2019) – A serious personal injury accident took place while a Utah Highway Patrol Trooper was stopped along the eastbound lane of Route 86 on Wednesday morning, February 27. Police stated that the incident occurred around 9:05 a.m. as Trooper Jacob Wackowski was assisting with traffic control due to a weather-related motor vehicle accident along the roadway.
Authorities reported that Trooper Wackowski was parked with his emergency lights activated when he was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer involved was being operated by 53-year-old Troy English, of Buffalo, who has been issued tickets for several vehicle and traffic violations, alongside failure to obey the Move Over Law.
Trooper Wackowski was immediately transported to Corning Hospital to be treated for injuries that have been classified as minor at this time. Police have not released any further information concerning the cause of the accident.
Our sincerest sympathies are wholeheartedly extended to Jacob Wackowski, as we maintain hope for his full recovery from any and all injuries sustained while trying to perform his duties as a State Trooper. Unfortunately, truck accidents in New York are commonly fatal or seriously injurious, generally because of the sheer size and power of such large vehicles. While it can be extremely difficult, it is terribly important for victims to realize that they may have substantial rights at this time.
