West Monroe, NY (February 25, 2019) – A serious personal injury accident involving an Oswego County DPW snow plow and two other vehicles were reported to have taken place on Monday afternoon, February 25, in the town of West Monroe. Authorities confirmed that the collision took place at around 2:40 p.m. on State Route 49.
According to a preliminary investigation, 87-year-old Bert D. Hyland, of Bernhards Bay, had been traveling eastbound in a 2013 Toyota when he lost control and crossed the center line. Hyland subsequently crashed into a snow plow, which ejected him from the vehicle. The victim landed under a guard rail on the south shoulder of Route 49 as the Toyota continued to crash into a 2008 Pontiac driven by 50-year-old Tresia M. Easterly, of Cleveland.
Emergency medical crews arrived at the scene where they immediately transported Hyland to Upstate Medical University Hospital to be treated for internal injuries. His condition is currently listed as stable. Easterly was taken to Crouse Hospital with minor injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident at this time.
Our sincere sympathies are wholeheartedly extended to both Bert D. Hyland and Tresia M. Easterly as we maintain hope for their full recoveries. Unfortunately, car accidents in New York are commonly fatal or seriously injurious, especially those which involve a large vehicle such as a snow plow. While it can be terribly difficult, it is important for victims to understand that they may have substantial rights at this time.
