Long Lake, NY (February 23, 2019) – On Saturday evening, a Long Island man was killed in a snowmobile accident in the Adirondacks when he went off the trail and into a lake.
Police have since identified the man as 44-year-old Christopher Becker. Police found him about 100 yards from the shore, according to police. The incident took place in the area of Steam Boat Road.
At the time, police found that Becker had been operating his snowmobile across the lake when the ice suddenly separated in one area. Becker was thrown from the snowmobile and landed on the ice. He suffered severe head injuries, according to police.
Officials were notified when one of the man’s friends called for help around 11:18 that night.
Various departments responded to the accident, including EMS personnel and the Long Lake Fire Department. So far this winter, there have been 13 snowmobile-related accidents across New York.
Because those who ride snowmobiles have very few protections from harm, these accidents are likely to end in fatal results to those involved. First and foremost, we would like to take a moment to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Christopher Becker, whose life was taken prematurely in this horrific incident.
