Lockport, NY (February 23, 2019) – On February 22 around 8:20 a.m., troopers were called to the scene of a school bus accident at Tonawanda Creek Road in Lockport. The accident was deemed a head-on collision.
Police say that the accident took place between a 2009 Blue Bird bus and a 2006 Toyota. Police investigated to find that 70-year-old Nancy Shatzel of North Tonawanda was traveling eastbound and suddenly crossed into the other lane, striking the bus head-on.
Shatzel received a variety of injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police have not released any information on her current condition.
There were two adults on the bus and ten children aged between 5-9. At this time, the investigation into the accident continues.
Though bus accidents do not happen as frequently as many other types of accidents, they still occur and cause serious results to those involved at times. Thousands of these accidents take place in New York, some of which involve serious injuries and others that end in children and adults being able to walk away unscathed. At this time, we would like to extend our sympathies to those involved in this accident with the hopes that they will be able to gain the strength to move forward during this difficult time.
