Rochester, NY (February 17, 2019) – An officer from the Rochester Police Department was hospitalized following a car accident at the intersection of Norton Street and Hollenbeck Street.
The accident happened yesterday, February 16, around 2 p.m. A chase began when a vehicle attempted to elude police on both sides of the city. However, in the midst of the chase, a Pontiac failed to stop at a stop sign, which caused the driver to strike a police officer in a cruiser.
A suspect then got out of the Pontiac, identified as 36-year-old James Williams, and ran from the scene. He was chased down by police on foot and arrested. He has since been charged with criminal possession in the 7th degree.
The unidentified driver of the Pontiac didn’t stop and was cited, but he was not arrested. The officer was taken to the hospital with pains but is expected to recover at this time.
