Far Rockaway, NY (February 15, 2019) – Dozens of people were reported to have become homeless following a 4-alarm fire that broke out inside an apartment complex in Queens on Friday, February 15. The fire swept through the 55-unit five-story building located on Mott Avenue, in the Far Rockaway section of the city, during the early hours of the morning.
The massive blaze prompted responses from numerous firefighters, who battled immensely heavy smoke as they were unable to knock down the flames in a timely manner. Emergency medical crews were immediately called to the scene, where they attended to one resident who was reported to have suffered at least minor injuries in the incident.
All other residents made it out of the complex safely but many apartments are a total loss, according to authorities. At this time, investigators are actively working to determine the cause of the fire.
We would, first and foremost, like to extend our sincere sympathies and heartfelt concerns to the injured victim of this incident, with the hope that they will make a complete recovery.
