Shirley, NY (February 9, 2019) – Last night, February 8, a pedestrian accident took place that led to serious injuries in one party, identified as 42-year-old Thomas Cortijo of Mastic.
Suffolk County Police stated that, at the time of the accident, Cortijo was crossing Brushwood Drive near the area of Neighborhood Road when he was suddenly struck by a 2000 Mercedes-Benz around 8:20 p.m.
The man received a wide variety of head injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by helicopter. The driver of the vehicle that struck Cortijo was identified as 38-year-old Thomas Jerome and was not injured in the accident. Jerome stayed at the scene of the accident to cooperate with police, who do not suspect criminality.
Detectives are still searching for more information about the accident and continue their investigation at this time.
