Amherst, NY (February 8, 2019) – An Amherst Police Department patrol vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle collision that happened on Friday afternoon, February 8, according to authorities. The two-vehicle personal injury accident was reported to have taken place on Sheridan Drive near Niagara Falls Boulevard.
Police stated that the officer involved had been responding to a call in an attempt to assist another officer when the patrol vehicle was struck by a 2017 Ford. The driver of the Ford, identified only as a 71-year-old man from Buffalo, collided with the patrol vehicle for reasons that have not been determined at this time.
The accident prompted a response from emergency medical crews who quickly transported the injured officer to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. The conditions of the victim are considered non-life-threatening. Furthermore, the driver of the Ford was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital, also suffering from a minor injury.
The events that led to this accident are actively being investigated by the police. No further information has been provided.
