Melrose, Bronx, NY (February 5, 2019) – A crime spree that began on Sunday morning, February 3, ended on Monday, February 4 after the suspects involved caused an accident that resulted in serious injuries. Police stated that the incident which injured a 24-year-old police officer took place shortly before noon in the area of Sheridan Avenue and East 162nd Street in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
According to authorities, three suspects went on a crime spree after carjacking a vehicle in the Bronx and traveled to Manhattan where they were involved in an unspecified robbery. The suspects then drove to Brooklyn where they committed two more robberies and another carjacking after being involved in an accident. Authorities were then alerted to the whereabouts of one of the stolen vehicles at the above-mentioned intersection.
When officers approached the vehicle, the driver who has only been identified as a female teenager, quickly slammed the car into reverse where she pinned the officer between the stolen vehicle and a parked car. The injured officer retaliated by firing several shots at the driver who is now critically injured. All three suspects have been arrested on multiple charges.
The officer who was pinned between vehicles was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. She was reported to have suffered hip, leg, and pelvis injuries. No further information has been provided regarding the condition of the officer at this time.
