West Islip, NY (February 1, 2019) – A deadly accident involving a commercial truck took place late Friday morning, February 1, and subsequently shut down traffic along the Robert Moses Causeway. The crash was reported to have occurred shortly before 12:00 p.m. in West Islip in the vicinity of Montauk Highway.
According to authorities, the driver of a truck for the company, “CallAhead” had been traveling northbound along the Robert Moses Causeway when he lost control for reasons that have not been determined. The commercial truck crossed over the southbound lane and crashed off the roadway. It is currently unclear as to whether or not any other vehicles were involved.
Emergency medical crews were dispatched to the scene to assist any victims. Tragically, one person, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead due to injuries suffered in the accident. Police are actively conducting a thorough investigation into the events that led to this incident.
