Queens, NY (January 27, 2019) – A 92-year-old grandmother lost her life in a fatal accident that took place yesterday, January 26, on 33rd Avenue in Queens, according to police.
The woman was identified as Gwendolyn Booklan of Bayside, who was the front-seat passenger of a Nissan Altima driven by her son, 59-year-old Ron. At the time, their Nissan had been heading west on 33rd Avenue when it crashed into a Toyota Corolla at the intersection with 202nd Street. The driver of the Toyota was an unidentified 19-year-old.
Ron Booklan said that the 19-year-old drove right through the stop sign without looking. He said that his mother, who was taken to the hospital after the accident, had four children, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
The cars both jumped the curb, slamming into a concrete wall after the forceful collision. Gwedolyn suffered severe trauma and was taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries to her head and body. While there, she was tragically pronounced deceased.
The other drivers were not injured. At this time, police continue their investigation into the accident.
