Newport, NY – 14-Year-Old Injured in Amish Buggy Accident

Newport, NY (January 26, 2019) – Police reported that a 14-year-old boy was injured in an Amish buggy accident that took place last evening, January 25, around 8:35 p.m. in Newport.

At the time, the boy had been operating a horse-drawn buggy when it collided with a pickup truck. The boy was identified as 14-year-old Samuel Miller, who had just pulled out of a private residence on 392 Honey Hill Road and immediately ran into the truck. The pickup truck had a snow plow attached to the front.

Following the collision, the horse dragged the buggy west where it came to rest off the northern shoulder of the roadway. Miller was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance. He received skull and facial fractures in the accident and is now listed in stable condition.

The horse was not injured and returned back to its farm after the accident. The truck driver was identified as 28-year-old Jeffrey Yaworski, who was not injured in the crash.
