Corona, Queens, NY (January 22, 2019) – A serious fire broke out at an apartment building on Monday night, January 21, that left three people injured and 20 without a home, according to authorities. The fire took place at around 10:00 p.m. at an apartment complex on 100th Street in the Corona section of Queens.

Police stated that one woman reported smelling rubber burning seconds before her apartment was in flames. The woman, identified as 84-year-old Lily Pugh, was able to escape the apartment uninjured, however, she lost her apartment of 50 years in the blaze.

Paramedics and police were on the scene along with firefighters to assist the residents of the complex as the blaze quickly spread into a 4-alarm fire. Altogether, three people were reported to have suffered injuries as the incident also left 20 people homeless.

At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation and the extent of the injuries suffered has not been stated. No further information has been made available.
