Mount Vernon, NY (January 21, 2019) – A serious fire broke out on Monday afternoon, January 21, that left an elderly woman injured, according to authorities. The house fire started at a home on Garden Street in Mount Vernon during the afternoon hours and prompted responses from firefighters, police, and emergency medical personnel.

By the time that firefighters arrived, the house had already been engulfed in flames. Emergency medical crews immediately accompanied firefighters as they worked to rescue one woman from the home. Police reported that paramedics quickly transported the victim to a local hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.

The extent of the injuries suffered by the victim has not been provided. Authorities have not stated the cause of the blaze as investigators are actively working the scene in order to make a determination.

No other injuries have been reported at this time and no further details have been provided.
