Rego Park, Queens, NY – One Killed and Three Injured in Apartment Fire

Rego Park, Queens, NY (January 14, 2019) – Police have reported that one person was tragically killed and three more injured following an apartment fire that broke out Saturday night, January 12, in the Rego Park section of Queens. The fire was stated to have begun at around 11:40 p.m. on the fifth floor of a high-rise building located on 62nd Avenue.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene where they were able to enter the building through heavy smoke and eventually get the blaze under control. Responders found 51-year-old Anna Latek inside of an apartment and quickly transported her to Elmhurst Hospital with smoke inhalation. She was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

An additional three people who also suffered smoke inhalation were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital to be treated. Those parties have been listed in stable condition at this time. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and no further information has been made available.
