Riverhead, NY (December 14, 2018) – At around 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, December 14, officials received a call concerning a construction worker who had become trapped after walls of dirt collapsed around him. The workers were reported to have been installing a new cesspool at a home on AJ Court when the walls of dirt collapsed and trapped the worker.
When authorities arrived in the scene, they found the worker buried up to his waist and unable to get out. The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident along with multiple other agencies. The worker remained trapped until crews were finally able to free him at around 6:00 p.m.
The worker was promptly airlifted to Stony Brook UniversityHospital following the incident in order to be treated for any injuries. The extent of the victims’ wounds has not been elaborated upon, but authorities do not believe that injuries are serious at this time.
