Utica, NY (November 27, 2018) – Authorities in central New York have stated that one person was sadly struck and killed by a train on Monday night, November 26, in Utica. According to police, the accident that involved a CSX freight train was reported to have taken place at around 7:00 p.m.
While the events that led to the incident are currently unclear, authorities reported that the victim who was struck by the train was pronounced dead at the scene. Both CSX and Amtrak passenger train traffic was forced to be suspended in both directions for a duration of approximately three hours. Service was restored by around 10:00 p.m.
Emergency medical crews who responded to the accident were able to verify that the victim had died due to injuries suffered from the impact of the collision. However, the identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
The cause of this incident is currently being investigated by authorities.
