New Rochelle, NY (November 23, 2018) – Two people suffered injuries, one seriously, during a collision involving a Union Taxi on Thanksgiving morning, November 23, according to police in New Rochelle. The accident was reported to have occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Echo Avenue.
Police stated that 27-year-old Joseph Vessechia, of Yorktown Heights, had been operating a silver 4-door Toyota Camry while under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the taxi at approximately 8:00 a.m. One passenger in the taxi suffered serious injuries after being thrown from the vehicle due to the impact of the collision.
The female victim was immediately transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where she is expected to make a full recovery, according to police. The driver of the taxi did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
Vessechia was stated to have sustained minor wounds as a result of the crash, as he was placed under arrest for DWI and vehicular assault. A wrought-iron fence and a pedestrian signal were damaged during the crash.
