Colonie, NY (November 23, 2018) – Authorities have stated that two people suffered injuries, including a Colonie police officer, during a motor vehicle collision on Friday evening, November 23. The accident which involved a Colonie police car took place at an unspecified time in Colonie.
According to police, a marked patrol car was responding to a call from another police agency near exit 5 on the Northway with its lights and siren activated. The officer was traveling west on Waltervliet-Shaker Road when they approached the intersection with Old Louden Road. Police stated that the patrol car then collided with a 2016 Kia Optima that was being operated by a 58-year-old man from Latham.
Emergency medical crews were quick to arrive on the scene to assist the injured parties as they transported the driver of the Optima to Albany Memorial Hospital. That victim was reported to have been suffering chest pain as a result of the crash. The injured officer was taken to Albany Medical Center where he is currently listed in stable condition after sustaining possible head and neck injuries.
None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening at this time, and neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to have been involved. The Colonie Traffic Safety Unit is actively involved in the investigation into this crash.
