Lowville, NY (November 20, 2018) – A tractor-trailer was reported to have been involved in a collision with an SUV on Monday afternoon, November 19, on Dayan Street/State Route 12 in Lowville. The injurious crash took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. between Easton Street and the American Legion.
The collision occurred at a bend in the aforementioned roadway. According to police, the tractor-trailer had been traveling downhill, approaching the bend, when the driver slammed on the brakes but was unable to avoid making contact with a Chevrolet Equinox being operated by an unidentified woman.
The SUV was traveling in the other lane, heading uphill when it collided into the tractor-trailer. The passenger side front end of the SUV was reported to have suffered severe damage due to the impact of the crash. The tractor-trailer came to rest in a yard, just barely avoiding contact with a home. The SUV settled in the middle of the road near the rear of the truck.
State police, village police, Lewis County Search and Rescue, and the Lowville Volunteer Fire Department all arrived on the scene to assist with the damages. An ambulance transported the female SUV driver to Lewis County General Hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating all aspects in regards to this accident.
