Flanders, NY (November 20, 2018) – A fatal crash between an intoxicated driver and a pedestrian was reported to have taken place Sunday night, November 18, according to Southampton Town Police. The deadly accident was stated to have occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on County Road 105, in the vicinity of Flanders Road.
According to Town Police, Tyler A. Gaches, of Shirley, had been driving while intoxicated when he struck 36-year-old Ian S. Costanza, of Riverside. Gaches reported the accident to police who arrived shortly after along with emergency medical personnel.
Costanza was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident as his body was taken to the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office. Gaches was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and his vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
The investigation into this accident is currently under investigation by the Suffolk County district attorney’s office, as well as Southampton Town Police.
