Haverstraw, NY (November 19, 2018) – An officer in Haverstraw has been placed on administrative leave after striking and fatally injuring a man with his police cruiser Saturday morning, November 17, in Garnerville. The accident was reported to have occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Route 202 near a Mobile Mart located at 109 West Ramapo Road.
The victim who has not been identified was reported as a 70-year-old male who regularly visited the Mobile Mart near the crash site. The officer who was stated to have been on duty at the time of the incident struck the elderly pedestrian for reasons that have yet to be confirmed.
It was not reported as to whether or not the victim was pronounced dead at the scene or at a nearby hospital, however, the officer involved was reported to have been treated at a hospital and released after suffering minor injuries. The officer involved has not been identified but will remain on administrative leave throughout the investigation into the incident.
