Washington Heights, NY: Woman Killed and 9 Injured in Apt. Fire

Washington Heights, Manhattan, NY (November 16, 2018) – Early Friday morning, November 16, a fire broke out at a Manhattan apartment building that sadly claimed the life of one woman and injured nine other people. According to authorities, the fire started at around 12:30 a.m. in the five-story apartment complex located on St. Nicholas Avenue.

Firefighters were immediately called to the scene in an attempt to rescue any occupants and extinguish the blaze. Upon their arrival, firefighters found 41-year-old Natasha Paulema unresponsive inside her apartment on the fourth floor. Paulema was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

A total of nine other people, including a 10-year-old girl, were reported to have suffered injuries due to the fire. Authorities stated that none of those injuries are considered life-threatening at this time. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
