Murray, NY (November 13, 2018) – Police responded to the scene of an accident that occurred on Monday, November 12, and involved a firefighter who was on his way to a call. The crash took place at approximately 5:39 p.m. when the volunteer firefighter crashed into the back of a grain truck that was turning off of Highway 31 in Murray.
The victim of the crash has now been identified as 27-year-old Jared E. Thompson, of Albion, according to authorities. Thompson is an active member of the Fancher Murray Hulberton Fire Company who had been traveling eastbound on Highway 31 when he rear-ended a farm truck. Thompson was reported to have been driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado truck with a blue volunteer light activated at the time of the accident.
Mercy Flight was called to the scene and immediately airlifted Thompson to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for multiple injuries. Thompsons’ precise condition has not been made available at this time, and no further information has been released.
The investigation into this incident is currently ongoing.
