New Paltz, NY (November 7, 2018) – An 86-year-old man was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle Monday evening, November 5, while attempting to walk across Main Street in New Paltz. Authorities are currently searching for anyone who may have witnessed the accident which was reported to have happened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
According to local police, officers were immediately called to the scene of the collision that occurred on Main Street in the vicinity of the Joalyn Road intersection. One man was reported to be lying in the roadway following the accident.
The New Paltz Rescue Squad arrived to assist the victim and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe injuries. The patient was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. The identity of the victim is currently being withheld until loved ones can be notified.
Police have stated that the incident occurred when the man was hit by a vehicle as it was heading eastbound on Main Street, however, no further details have been made available. There was no mention of whether or not the driver involved remained at the scene, but witnesses are being asked to come forward with any information.
