Horseheads, NY (November 7, 2018) – Police are currently investigating the cause of a house fire that claimed the life of one individual Wednesday afternoon, November 7. The fire was reported to have taken place in the town of Horseheads at around 3:15 p.m.
Authorities confirmed the location of the fire to be at 541 East Franklin Street as fire personnel and police were dispatched to the home in response to a structure fire with the reported entrapment of at least one person. The emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the call and found one victim deceased inside the home.
The cause of the fire is currently unclear and no one else was reported to have suffered any injuries during the incident. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
No further details have been provided at this time. Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management are investigating the incident along with the NYS Office of Fire Prevention Control.
