Kingston, NY (October 24, 2018) – A 76-year-old driver of a vehicle suffered a medical episode while behind the wheel and crashed into a school bus for children with special needs on Tuesday afternoon, October 23. The accident occurred on Hasbrouck Avenue at around 1:50 p.m.
According to Kingston city police, the unidentified man was driving a 1989 Mercury Marquis when he suffered a medical episode that caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The man went through the intersection with Foxhall Avenue after striking a utility pole and a street sign. The driver then crashed into the special needs school bus several times.
Once the man’s medical episode subsided, the vehicle he was driving finally stopped accelerating and rolled back into a fenced-in area. Emergency medical professionals who arrived on the scene transported both the driver of the car and a 15-year-old student from the bus to the Broadway campus of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley.
No further information has been released at this time. Police stated that the investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.
