Riverhead, NY (October 3, 2018) – A motorist had to be rescued after driving into Long Island Sound at the end of Roanoke Avenue on Wednesday evening, October 3. The vehicle that the victim had been driving was reported to have been going very fast in order to end up 75 feet offshore.
The incident happened at around 7:40 p.m. when the driver took the vehicle down a boat ramp and plunged into the water below. Firefighters along with Riverhead police were immediately on the scene as they began their rescue efforts shortly after the crash. The driver is believed to be the only one injured during the accident.
No further information has been made available at this time. The cause of this incident is currently being investigated by local authorities.
