The Bronx, NY (October 2, 2018) – The hit-and-run driver who caused a crash that killed one man and injured one woman on Sunday night, September 30, has been arrested. 24-year-old Collin Hedley was reported to have been heading south on Jerome Avenue when he crossed the center line in his BMW, subsequently sideswiping a Honda SUV.
According to police, Hedley then accelerated his vehicle in the opposite lane and struck a vehicle being operated by 59-year-old Ramon Monteagudo, who was oncoming in the northbound lane. Monteagudo’s vehicle then spun into the path of an SUV at or near East 233rd Street.
Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene immediately in order to assist the individuals involved. Monteagudo was promptly transported to a local hospital where he was tragically pronounced dead a short time later. Police stated that the unidentified 70-year-old female driver of the Honda SUV sustained minor injuries during the crash. She was treated at the scene.
Hedley initially fled the scene on foot and headed into the Woodlawn Cemetery and Conservancy. However, Hedley was placed under arrest after he returned to the scene shortly afterward. The New York hit-and-run driver is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, as well as driving without a license and possession of a controlled substance.
