Snapchat, a social media app, recently came under fire for its “speed filter” feature, which tracks how fast someone is driving while they take a selfie. Attorneys are claiming that this feature has proved a contributing factor to many distracted driving accidents in the country.
One lawyer says that because Snapchat photos and videos disappear seconds after they are posted, they demand more concentration. Earlier this week, Georgia local Wentworth Maynard filed a legal complaint against Snapchat and a young driver for a car accident that resulted in Maynard’s serious brain injuries. The lawsuit claims that the driver, a young woman, was using Snapchat while she was driving at 100 miles per hour because she was using the speed filter feature.
