Construction worker injured by falling debris

Posted on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at 7:08 pm

One construction worker was seriously injured on December 15 when falling construction materials struck him in the face. He suffered severe injuries while working in a four-story building on the Upper West Side at W. 86th St. and West End Ave. The worker was transported to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital in an ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

The accident happened while the injured worker was on the second floor working on the renovation project. He was struck in the face by construction material that another worker had dropped from a higher floor. This resulted in the Buildings Department issuing a partial stop-work order for scaffold usage. The construction site and contractor working on it were issued a citation for “failure to safeguard.”

In response to this year seeing the highest rate of injuries and fatalities on New York construction sites in years, the city is taking measures to promote safer workplaces for workers. In the last week, there have been rallies in support of higher safety standards and contractors taking responsibility for hiring non-union workers without proper safety training.

Construction is one of the most dangerous and labor intensive fields in which an individual can work. The likelihood of injuries on site are increased when safety measures are not upheld by a negligent construction company. If you were injured while on the job through no fault of your own, please contact the construction accident attorneys at Hach & Rose, LLP.
