Crane accident injures 10 in NYC

Posted on Sunday, May 31st, 2015 at 6:46 pm

Earlier this morning an AC unit that was being raised to the top of a building in Manhattan fell 28 stories after the cable holding it snapped. According to authorities, 2 construction workers and 8 passers-by were injured in the incident, all of whom are being treated at area hospitals. The accident took place in Midtown Manhattan, between East 38th and 39th street on Madison Avenue.

Rich Chandler, the Buildings Department Commissioner, stated that all required permits for the involved crane were “in place” and that no one had filed an official complaint about the crane. Mayor Bill de Blasio stated that the city would conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
