Cement subcontractor in fatal accident has history of violations

Park Side Construction, the subcontractor overseeing the cement work at the 37th Street hotel construction project where 27-year-old worker Rodalfo Vasquez-Galian was killed, was revealed to have a history of safety violations, DNAinfoNewYork reported on September 24.

According to federal Department of Labor records, Park Side Construction was given $11,900 in fines in May 27 for lacking safety equipment at a different construction project at 81 Fleet Place.

Vasquez-Galian, of 418 Liberty Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey, died at the scene of the construction site as he was securing the foundation for the 22-floor hotel at 326 West 37th Street in Midtown, New York when a concrete block fell from the building and crushed him.

The city Department of Buildings ordered the construction be postponed because an approach pit – an area that workers use to have space beneath the foundation – was not dug.

Construction is a constant in New York City, and injuries often happen at building sites. If you have been injured on or near a construction site, the attorneys at Hach & Rose, LLP, may represent you in the pursuit of financial compensation. Call our offices at (212) 779-0057 today to learn more.
