New York City college construction on the rise

Posted on Friday, September 26th, 2014 at 6:19 pm

While private-sector construction has suffered through the financial downturn in and around New York City, the Wall Street Journal reports that higher-education construction continues to be a strong point for the construction industry. With over $2 billion dollars already committed to be spent by post-secondary educational institutions this year—an investment rate that is expected to continue for the next three years—construction companies around New York appear to have a steady source for contracts.

Despite some principled opposition to construction projects that have been proposed, particularly at NYU, these higher education construction projects serve as a driving force for New York’s economy. For construction workers in particular, the rate of investment that is anticipated over the next few years will translate into steady employment in sustained projects in and near the city.

As with every construction site, worker safety will need to be proactively maintained throughout this period of growth—a sentiment all the more highlighted by the tragic loss of a Jersey City man last week in Midtown Manhattan. While the entire legal team at Hach & Rose, LLP, celebrates the continued growth and performance of post-secondary education construction in and around New York, we remain committed to protecting the rights of construction workers.

That being said, we will aggressively pursue financial restitution for any injury sustained at a New York construction site. To discuss the particulars of a construction-site injury with one of our lawyers, please call our offices at (212) 779-0057 today.
