Physical changes are in store for Route 328 in Southport, New York in 2015. In a bid to make the highway safe for motorists, the New York Department of Transportation (DoT) announced on Tuesday, October 1 that it will be outlining a plan to build a roundabout for the highway.
According to police, cars from Route 69 have a high tendency to collide with vehicles headed south on 328.
They first looked at eliminating the northbound access completely, but nearby residents and businesses stated that would entail too much allocation for travel. Another option they considered was putting a stoplight in the highway, but DoT officials and the citizens agreed that traffic shouldn’t be stopped completely.
