One killed when truck crashed into Simeon’s in Ithaca
One individual died and at least seven others incurred minor injuries after a tractor-trailer hauling cars crashed into Simeon’s restaurant in downtown Ithaca on the afternoon of June 20, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported.
The Ithaca police have yet to release the names of the victims or driver involved. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was taken under police custody to be investigated. A pastry chef from a nearby restaurant was sitting outside at the time of the accident and witnessed the event. She did not hear the brakes of the truck; to her, it appeared that it drove directly into the restaurant without stopping.
When the four-story building was hit by the large commercial truck, the front corner of the restaurant collapsed. Later, a crane demolished part of the roof. A city engineer and private engineer firm are inspecting the damage to the structure.
The attorneys at Hach & Rose, LLP, send their deepest condolences to the friends and family who are suffering from this tragic accident.
